Clinical Supervision (LCSW)

I provide clinical supervision and consultation to Master of Social Work (MSW) therapists who are working towards their clinical licensure (LCSW). I offer both individual, joint and group supervision.   Group supervision has a maximum of five supervisees. To meet the financial needs of starting social workers, I offer reduced rates for recent MSW graduates.

Location of Supervision

Supervision is currently provided via a secure, video platform. If the group is meeting in-person, the office is located near the Downers Grove Main Street Metra stop (Metra BNSF Railway Line).

Rates

Please contact me for supervision rates.  Discounts are available for recent graduates (within two years of graduation).

I look forward to working with you!

Testimonials

"I have known Renee for the past five years in both a professional and personal manner. Renee provided my graduate school supervision from 2012-2013 at Glenbard West High School. As her intern, I was impressed by her organization, depth of knowledge, and insight related to the school social work field. She was invested in my personal and professional growth as a social worker. After graduation with my MSW, I went on to seek supervision for my LCSW licensure. Renee was the first person to come to mind, as I'd had an incredibly positive past experience with her. In group LCSW supervision, Renee was always punctual. She provided weekly agendas, topics, and articles on evidence based practices. Group was well organized, and designed in a way that every participant could share their concerns and questions in a safe environment. Renee did a wonderful job of providing assistance when asked, but also allowing us to gain insight from our peers in a collaborative way. I would not recommend anyone other than Renee McGowan for social work supervision! She is a pleasure to work with, and has helped me grow exponentially as a professional in the social work world."

 ~Britney Duner, LCSW

“I am so thankful to have found Renee to supervise me through my first year and a half in the clinical social work field. Renee fostered a space where I fully trusted my barriers, both personal and professional, would be met with empathy, understanding, and lack of judgment. This helped me grow exponentially as a clinician, both in developing skills, but more than anything else, in developing confidence as a social worker. She was so perceptive in recognizing when there was a skill/knowledge gap versus a lack of confidence as a newer clinician, and through our work together, I’ve also developed the ability to differentiate between the two and know whether I need to ask questions or take a deep breath and trust my instincts.  I cannot speak highly enough about Renee and how integral she has been in these early stages of my career. She’s been truly invaluable and I never thought I’d say this, but I am sad I’ve hit my 3,000 hours and will not have my weekly meeting with her!”

“This group provided me with a network of individuals with shared experiences who work with students in a school setting. We talked through challenging experiences and received feedback and consultation from the group members. This helped improve my practice and grow my confidence. Renee was always extremely professional, personable, helpful and available to me and supported me with a number of challenging situations through consultation calls. The extensive knowledge she brought to the group made a huge impact on my work and mindset. I cannot say enough positive things about Renee and this group.”

"I participated in Renee's supervision group for two years. It was an incredibly rewarding experience. Each session every person would bring forward a case that was challenging or an issue that he or she was dealing with in their schools. Renee is so knowledgeable about school issues and different types of students that she was always able to provide helpful insight. The format of the group allowed everyone to share their ideas, resources, and thoughts in order to help one another best help the student. At the next session each person would give an update on the previous case because all of the other group member would want to know what had happened with that situation or student. One of the most helpful tools that this group provided was the resources. We had access to folders in Google Drive where each person, including Renee, could add resources for groups or trainings they went to. This was incredibly helpful. Renee would always provide articles and different resources about topics the group was interested in. Renee was incredibly supportive and helpful. I was very sad when my hours had ended because I gained so much from the supervision group. I would highly recommend this group to anyone working in or with a school."

"In my first year of being a School Social Worker, I often felt so lost when I needed problem-solving support, and I knew I was missing something necessary to make my practice stronger. The School Social Work group with Renee has been incredible, and I look forward to every session. She is a true role model for relationship-building skills, as I immediately felt connected to her. She is incredibly accessible and always genuinely wants to help and will answer crisis questions when needed, not just in the group. Renee picked amazing topics for each session that felt helpful to each practice, regardless of grade-level worked with, and gave great tangible resources that I feel I can always go back to in the future. Overall, I am so grateful to Renee and the growth she has helped me achieve over our time together.

“Participating in Renee’s Clinical Supervision Group was very helpful. She created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and it was very easy to give and receive support with the other social workers. The group helped me with difficult cases, and it sharpened my own clinical skills. I am grateful to have had this experience, and I highly recommend it to others pursuing their LCSW.”

~Liz (about individual supervision)

"Working as a social worker in a school setting does not provide ample opportunities for professional collaboration and reflection. Being a part of Renee's supervision group not only provided the support and resources I was looking for, but allowed me the space to grow as a professional."

~Liz (about individual supervision)

"I participated in Renee's group supervision with Renee and 2-3 other social workers. Renee provided a calm, empathetic, and welcoming environment for us to ask questions, discuss case studies, and plan for future actions. I always felt comfortable seeking her guidance on tricky scenarios and having the other social workers in my group was a great way to gain their insight as well. Each person had varying levels of knowledge depending on the topic, which was very helpful. Depending on the topic, Renee provided resources for us to use in addition to all of the resources made available to us on her shared drive. Participating in Renee's group was a great experience and I recommend it to anyone who is seeking supervision.”

~Jana

“Renee was compassionate, professional and authentic. I could not have asked for a better supervisor during my first year in direct clinical work or through the various changes and professional anxieties that arose through the pandemic. Renee offered perspective and expertise in areas of clinical practice and ethical standards. I felt confident every supervision that I would leave more knowledgeable and prepared for the next week of clients that when I arrived.”
